Security Seals

What Is a Security Seal?

A security seal is a device designed to ensure the integrity of a container, access point, or piece of equipment. It serves to detect any attempt at fraud, tampering, or unauthorized opening—whether successful or not.

As a tool for deterrence, control, and traceability, the seal is essential in regulated or high-risk sectors. Each seal is unique: sequential or random numbering, barcodes, QR codes, or data matrix codes provide tamper-proof identification and reliable tracking.

Why Use Security Seals?

Security seals play a key role in protecting assets and data. Their use helps to:

  • Prevent fraud, theft, and tampering
  • Ensure the integrity of goods or documents during transport, storage, or handling
  • Guarantee traceability in logistics or metrology flows
  • Comply with regulatory and normative requirements (ISO, C-TPAT, HACCP, etc.)

Seal Classification

Indicative Seals
Designed for low-risk applications, they provide a visual indication of opening. Easy to apply and remove (by hand or with a simple tool), they are commonly used in logistics, retail, or postal services.

Security Seals
Made from non-resealable materials, these seals require a cutting tool for removal. They offer greater tamper resistance while ensuring precise traceability.

High-Security Seals
Compliant with ISO 17712:2013, they are designed for high-risk environments (customs, maritime freight). Their construction (steel, reinforced cable) requires specialized cutting tools for removal.

Adhesive Seals
VOID, holographic, or destructible labels protect documents, envelopes, or devices. They reveal any attempt at removal or substitution.

Electronic Seals
RFID seals, GPS trackers, or connected sensors allow for remote monitoring, opening logs, and real-time traceability.

Special-Purpose Seals
For sterile, chemical, or sensitive environments: seals resistant to chemical agents, compliant with health standards, used in hospitals, laboratories, or the pharmaceutical industry.
